Piedmont Bird Club (PBC) makes special arrangements for our group with the T.G. Pearson Audubon Society to enter this Greensboro facility. In past winters we have noted several species of sparrows, raptors, ducks, and other interesting birds.
*This is a joint activity with Piedmont Bird Club.
Location: White Street Landfill. Meet in the parking lot of the Congregational United Church of Christ, 400 W. Radiance Drive, 27403, (or other site TBD) to carpool. Carpooling is essential as there is very limited parking at the Landfill entrance and so that the number of our birding group’s cars will not interfere with trucks that are regularly at the landfill.
Time: Carpool will depart from the church at 8:00 a.m.
Duration: Should return to the church about noon.
Habitat: grass-covered landfill areas, pond, creek, mature mixed forest
Special considerations: The city may cancel this trip under certain circumstances; if so, an alternative trip focused on winter birds will be offered. Monitor the listserv and/or contact the Trip Coordinator for details.
Difficulty Rating: 1; mostly slow driving mixed with short walks, areas can be wet, shoes with traction advisable
Provisions needed: Water, drinks, lunch/snacks
Cancellation: In case of inclement weather, the trip will be cancelled. Contact the Trip Coordinator.
Special Note: Once we are inside the landfill facility there are no restroom facilities.
