FIELD TRIP TO NORTHEAST PARK SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2007
Four
adventurous Audubon members turned out for the hike at the county’s new
Northeast Park on December 1st. Upon entering the park, two of us
were greeted by a flock of American Pipits gleaning insects and seeds from
the grass alongside the road. We had a lovely morning of hiking along Reedy
Fork Creek and Buffalo Creek; we saw many familiar resident birds as well as
some winter visitors including a Fox Sparrow, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and a
Hermit Thrush. The most mysterious creature we saw was a large grayish
canine that bolted into the brush from the trail ahead of us – a coyote,
perhaps? With its peaceful winding trails and beautiful views of the large
creeks, this park is well worth a return visit.
